Surprising Entrepreneurs Who Have Changed the World
Brian Scudamore was waiting in line at McDonalds when he saw a pickup truck hauling junk, so he bought his own truck for only $700 and began driving around picking up unwanted goods. He was able to earn the money he needed to supplement his income through college and then after college, he started searching for ways to expand the idea. In 1998, he changed the name of his business to 1-800-GOT-JUNK and now has franchises all over North America and Canada.
Bert Jacobs had a very simple idea: a motto for a tee-shirt. He and his brother John, designed tee-shirts with the motto “Life is Good” and included a cartoon figure alongside called “Jake.” The brothers sold their tee-shirts on the streets and at colleges on the East Coast. Their idea soon caught on and today they create coffee mugs, towels, totes, dog leashes, and of course tee-shirts. This one simple idea developed into a booming business that earns over $100 million per year.
